Featuring the work of three the Kansas City area artists, Got Art Gallery presents West to Midwest. Including artwork by Dennis E. Conner, Don Dane and Darla Zook, the exhibit focuses on imagery of the Midwestern upbringing of the three artists.   Meeting and exhibiting each year at Silver Dollar City’s annual National Harvest and Cowboy Festival the artists sought out a local venue to bring their talents together. Conner, Dane and Zook will be partnering in this exhibit with more than 50 works by the three artists, ranging from painting, drawing, and sculpture. The public is invited to attend the opening reception on Saturday December 9th, from 3pm-5pm. The exhibit is on view from now through January 4th, 2018.

Dennis E. Conner is a western, Native American, and wildlife artist who specializes in sculpting realistic fine art.  Growing up in Nebraska on the Missouri River, Dennis developed an early love and appreciation for nature, the outdoors, and the history of the western heritage. While Dennis is primarily self-taught, he has studied with the “Cowboy Artists of America”, Veryl Goodnight, and Lincoln Fox.  His bronzes and woodcarvings enhance many private, corporate, and public collections throughout the United States.

Darla Zook grew up in the wide-open spaces of western Oklahoma working with her father on the family farm. While living on and working on the farm, music was a creative outlet for her family.  These experiences planted in her the passion to portray through her art and music the beauty she sees in the world around her.  Now living on a farm in Missouri, she is married to Duane Zook, and they have two daughters: Casey and Shelby. After graduating with a BA in Art and Music Education, Darla taught art in the public school system for twenty-nine years, retiring in 2006.  While teaching, she continued to create art of her own, also completing a MA with an emphasis on transparent watercolor from Central Missouri State University.  She illustrated the book The Yoder Outsiders by James Yoder, with both a watercolor painting and pen and ink drawings.  For the fourth consecutive year, she has had the opportunity to demonstrate and display her artwork at Silver Dollar City’s annual Harvest Festival for the duration of September and October.

Don Dane is a self-taught, traditional artist who likes the realistic style of painting and drawing. He has become well known for his portrayal of the American west and the cowboy way of life.  Born in St. Louis, Missouri and raised in the beautiful Ozark hills, Dane is, by all accounts, a mid-westerner. His father was a rural Baptist minister and his mother nurtured high moral standards within the family home. Dane has carried these same moral standards into his daily life and they are reflected in his art.  Don’s subject matter varies, but he prefers painting subjects that reflect the tradition of the American west, the American cowboy and the rural way of life.  Dane works from his home/studio located in Greenwood, MO.
