Summer Art Camp – Week 7

This week’s camps were Mimic a Master Camp and American Girl Camp, both taught by Miss Ivey, and Clay Camp taught by Miss Mary Maude!

 

Mimic a Master Camp! Ages 7-12

In this camp, we focused on creating artwork inspired by famous artists.

This camp’s projects included:

Maud Lewis Folk Paintings

Maud Lewis was a Canadian folk artist from Nova Scotia. She remains one of Canada’s best-known folk artists. She was born in 1903 and died in 1970. She was known for her paintings “Three Black Cats” and “Hauling Logs”.

 

Wayne Thiebaud Clay Donuts

Wayne Thiebaud Bubblegum Machine Mixed Media

Wayne Thiebaud is an American painter widely known for his colorful works depicting commonplace objects – pies, lipsticks, paint cans, ice cream cones, pastries, and hot dogs – as well as for his landscapes and figure paintings. He was born in 1920 and is still alive. The periods in which he painted were Modern art, Nouveau réalisme, Bay Area Figurative Movement, and Pop art. He attended California State University.

Mondrian Oil Pastel and Watercolor

Pieter Cornelis “Piet” Mondrian was a Dutch painter. He was a contributor to the De Stijl art movement and group, which was founded by Theo van Doesburg. Mondrian was born in 1872 and died in 1944. The periods in which he painted were De Stijl, Post-Impressionism, Impressionism, Fauvism, Cubism, and Modern Art. He attended the Royal Academy of Arts and the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten.

Modern Starry Night Paintings

Vincent van Gogh was a Dutch Post-impressionist painter who is among the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art. He was born in 1853 and died in 1890. The periods in which he painted were Realism, Post impressionism, Modern art, Impressionism, Japonism, Pointillism, Baroque, and Expressionism. He had 5 siblings, and attended the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and Willem II College.

Andy Warhol Prints

Andy Warhol was an American artist, director, and producer who was a leading figure in visual art movement known as pop art. He was born in 1928 and died in 1987. The periods in which he painted in were Pop art, Abstract expressionism, Naîve art, Contemporary art, and Modern art.

American Girl Camp! Ages 6+

This camp is based on the American Girl Doll Saige, who is an artist, and the story “Saige Paints the Sky” is our inspiration for the hot air balloon painting.

Clay Camp! Ages 8+

This is a two-day camp that is spread over two weeks. The first week we created our clay sea creatures, then Miss Mary Maude took them home to kiln fire them. Next week, we will paint them!
